Leave it to someone who offers up counsel on protecting your money to know a thing or two about proper network management. Andrew Schrage is co-owner of MoneyCrashers.com, a website that helps readers make smarter financial decisions. This Brown University grad moved from the east coast to the Windy City to explore starting a company. After being introduced to now-business partner, Gyutae Park, Schrage helped create a website that logs more than 200,000 unique page views a month.


And while Schrage may be an economics grad by nature, managing the company’s network infrastructure is what takes up the bulk of his time these days. With our minds on our money, and our money on our minds, we connected with Schrage to get his take on what he faces every day in keeping his company’s networks up and running.

The following is a conversation we conducted with this up-and-coming entrepreneur.

Dave Sniadak: First off, how does Chicago compare to Boston?

Andrew Schrage: I like how Chicago’s downtown is more spread out. And generally speaking, it’s cheaper to live in Chicago, at least from my experience. There also seems to be more entertainment options.

DS: I agree. You know what else is entertaining? Offering insight for folks trying to save money. How has the integration of mobile technology made you more valuable to the team at MoneyCrashers.com?

Schrage: I’m valuable to my team because of my ability to quickly analyze business data, categorize it, and store it in a prompt fashion. I’ve become much more adept at this since I started using mobile technology.

DS: How so?

Schrage: For a variety of reasons, I’m on the road a lot. Mobile technology allows me to stay on top of growth initiatives, continue to market my business, and basically keep up with the day-to-day activities of the site without being tied down to a desk. I also communicate
