Google's cloud-based entry into the education laptop market was a hit at FETC 2012.

Among its many boasts, the cloud-based, software-free, netbook-sized Google Chromebook supposedly takes just 8 seconds to boot up and requires no anti-virus programs.

As more and more schools try to put a laptop or tablet into the hands of each and every student — so-called 1:1 programs — the Chromebook is garnering attention and could rival competitors like Apple’s Macbook and iPad2 (and the iPad 3, if the rumor mill is accurate).

How that will shake out remains to be seen, but after generating plenty of buzz at FETC 2012 one thing is for certain: People are paying attention.
