Scala, Inc. recently announced that they have teamed up with Ben & Jerry’s to provide the software behind the digital menu boards and a live Twitter ticker at Ben & Jerry’s flagship store in Tokyo. Scala’s digital signage serves as an electronic time warp of sorts — connecting the 1960’s era, homegrown feel of the Ben & Jerry’s environment with the more tech savvy and connected customer of today.
Presenting media in both Japanese and English, the digital menu boards, which are the first digital signage components ever to be used by the Ben & Jerry’s chain, let customers know what is on the menu in an engaging way. Alongside the menus, a live Twitter Ticker, also powered by Scala, enhances customer engagement through social media. With Scala 5 software, Ben & Jerry’s has customizable control over content design, management and distribution, allowing the location to update and change its digital content as quickly as they change their in-store menu.
Scala worked with several companies to address Ben & Jerry’s need for digital signage. Tesser, a branding and design company, helped create Ben & Jerry’s new global look and designed the Tokyo store. Tesser also developed the concept design for the menu boards and the Twitter Ticker. Scala worked with network consultant Solution Forge, LLC for Ben & Jerry’s digital signage project as well.
The Scala digital signage software presents the digital menus on NEC displays and the Twitter Ticker is displayed on NanoLumens LED displays. ![]()
