It’s hard enough managing one IP address, let alone a few. Crestron is ditching the multiple IP addresses on its Crestron DigitalMedia platform, which should make it easier and more cost-effective.

Crestron DigitalMedia is a standard designed to deliver high-def audio and video signals over a single wire. Now, it also has just one IP address, also known as Private Network Mode. That basically takes receivers, transmitters and other DigitalMedia peripherals off the public network. The end result promises to streamline the system, conserve IP addresses, and cut costs.

“Private network mode drastically simplifies integration with the LAN and other IT infrastructure—whether in a single home or massive corporate campus,” says Fred Bargetzi, Crestron’s VP of technology. “Now, all DM peripherals are managed by the switch, and you only need one IP address. All this with virtually zero configuration.”

According to Crestron, all new DigitalMedia switchers now include Private Network Mode functionality. Current DigitalMedia clients can download the latest update from the Crestron website, all without having to deal with programming changes.
